Navigating your dashboard

Your dashboard overview — today's schedule, action items, client requests, and quick actions.

Written by Hashem Abdou

Your dashboard is the first thing you see when you log in. It gives you a real-time snapshot of your day and highlights items that need your attention.

In this article:

1. Upcoming Sessions

The Upcoming Sessions panel at the top of your dashboard shows your next sessions (today's schedule, or tomorrow's if your day is clear):

  • Each session shows the client name, time, and session mode (video, in-person, or phone).

  • Status indicators show whether sessions are upcoming, in progress, or completed.

  • Click Start Session directly from here to begin a telehealth or in-person session. f you need to change the type of session you will be running (e.g., in-person to telehealth), you can also do this here.

    • For phone sessions, the button reads Log Session instead of Start Session — phone appointments are logged after the call rather than started live.

💡 Session data is refreshed automatically when you navigate back to the dashboard or when the app regains focus after 60 seconds away.

2. Action items

Your dashboard highlights pending items that need your attention. Each shows a count — click any item to go directly to the relevant section. The Action Items panel is only visible on desktop.

  • Notes to Sign — completed sessions with unsigned notes. Click to review and sign in an in-dashboard modal panel.

  • Unbilled Sessions — completed sessions that haven't been invoiced or claimed yet. Navigates to the billing tab.

  • Overdue Documents — assessments or forms you assigned to patients that are past due. Opens an in-dashboard modal panel. Only visible when the Documents feature is enabled.

  • Unread Messages — new messages from clients in secure messaging. Navigates to messaging.

  • Pending Reviews — if you're a supervisor, sessions from supervisees awaiting your review. Navigates to supervision.

  • Expiring Treatment Plans — treatment plans nearing expiration. Appears only when you have one or more; opens a modal.

  • Pending Requirements — compliance requirements awaiting action. Opens an in-dashboard modal panel. Only visible when your practice uses compliance requirements.

3. Client requests

If clients have requested to connect with you, an alert appears at the bottom of the Action Items panel. Click Review to approve or deny each request. Outbound invitations you sent that are awaiting the client's response are not shown here.

4. Appointment requests

If clients have requested appointments that need your approval, a "N actions need review" alert appears at the bottom of the Action Items panel. Click Review to open the Scheduling tab's Pending Approvals, where you can approve or decline each requested appointment.

💡Note: this is a separate alert from the client connection-requests one above (which also has a Review button) — that one is for people asking to connect with you, this one is for appointment requests.

5. Quick actions

One-click shortcuts to common tasks like adding a client, creating an appointment, or accessing the help center.

  • Selecting Add Client takes you to the Clients tab.

  • Create Appointment opens the Calendar.

  • Help Center opens the external help.oasys.health site in a new tab.

7. Personal To-Do List

The dashboard includes a Personal To-Do List, a private scratchpad for your own reminders. It is not shared with clients or your practice.

  • Add a task: type in the "Add a new task…" box and press Enter or click the + button (up to 300 characters).

  • Mark a task done: click its checkbox. Completed tasks are struck through and move to the bottom.

  • Delete a task: hover over it and click the trash icon.

  • Recover a task: click "View deleted tasks" at the bottom of the list to restore it, or delete it permanently.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why don't I see billing action items?
Billing-related items (like Unbilled Sessions) only appear if you have the billing feature enabled. If you don't see them, check with your practice admin or contact support.

  • How often does the dashboard refresh?
Session data refreshes automatically when you navigate back to the dashboard or when the app regains focus after 60 seconds away. Action item counts also update when you return to the dashboard or when underlying data changes.

  • Can I customize what appears on the dashboard?
The dashboard layout is fixed, but the items shown are dynamic: they reflect your actual caseload, pending items, and enabled features.
